Chelsea look set to appoint their next manager ahead of the Premier League campaign coming to an end.
Chelsea's next manager will reportedly be given the green light to sign three players in the summer transfer window and Brentford star Ivan Toney could one of them. The Blues are counting down the days now until their disastrous season comes to an end having fallen into the bottom half of the Premier League.
There will be no European football at Stamford Bridge next season for only the second time since 1999. For whoever comes in as the club's next manager, they'll have the summer to try and fix the issues that arose throughout this campaign.
Frank Lampard has been unable to make a difference since coming in on a temporary basis. But it's hoped at Chelsea that a full pre-season with their new manager can help get them back on track.
The 'overall plan' for Chelsea, according to Simon Phillips, is to bring in a striker, a goalkeeper, and a deep-lying midfielder. The primary priority is to sign a center forward because Chelsea has had scoring problems all season.
This season, Kai Havertz has been Chelsea's primary choice in the centre, while Joao Felix has occasionally filled in since joining on loan in January. Romelu Lukaku might get an opportunity when he returns from his loan with Inter Milan, but it appears that Chelsea will prefer to sign a fresh player.
It's claimed Brentford's star man Toney is the top choice with the England international enjoying another fruitful season in front of goal. But Chelsea's board are said to be holding fire on pursuing a move for Toney as they await the outcome of the investigation into the striker's alleged betting offences.
The West Ham star left Chelsea's academy at the age of 14 and has been linked with a return ever since breaking out with the Hammers. Meanwhile, Chelsea expressed strong interest in signing Caicedo in January before they made their move for Enzo Fernandez.
